Brief Description Organization

A not-for-profit health service organization in the west end of Toronto. Services include supports for seniors, caregivers, and people living with mental health and addictions concerns. The Alzheimer’s Day Program is a social club aimed to support adults who are coping with the specific effects of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, and want to stay in the community, in their own homes, or living with their families. The program uses Montessori principles that focus on goal-based activities and one-on-one support. Participants can take part in a range of arts, cultural, gardening, cooking, and exercise activities. The program focuses on the unique needs and abilities of each person. The group has access to a beautiful courtyard garden that is safe and secure. The program also supports families and caregivers. Alzheimer’s Society of Waterloo Wellington provides an education series that shares valuable information that can be used to help support the family and their loved one in the home. The program is run by highly skilled staff who have extensive experience in managing the behaviors that accompany moderate to severe dementia. Staff are trained in Montessori principles, validation therapy, and hold a geriatric certificate program. Nutritious meals are served throughout the day including a muffin and hot beverage in the morning, lunch, and an afternoon snack.
