Team CarePal enables the largest workforce of healthcare providers in Canada, with what they need to do better work. I’m excited about working to make it better, in my new role as the director of Sales at Team CarePal.
The timing of this opportunity has been more than a little spooky. It’s such a good fit with my background and community, that the entire hiring process took less than five minutes. Within a few days of accepting the offer, my grandmother (aged 102) passed away. From the other side of the country, it feels as if she was saying; this work matters–double down and do it well.
The last five years of her life have been difficult. Dementia made it difficult for her to remember those closest to her. On my last visit, she flirted a little with me, assuming I was her partner. While it made me blush, it also signaled how much things were changing for her. She did have caring sons who really were there for her, but I wish it had been easier to be part of the process. I wish that my Uncle who was her primary care contact didn’t have to come so close to burnout on a regular basis.
For millennia, elders were the primary holders of information. Now we have outsourced that to a complex web of technology. What should the process of aging mean? That’s one of the deep, inner questions I’m holding as I start this role. It’s not in my job description, but I’m perpetually an existential explorer. This role will be a fertile ground to explore it. I’ll get to see what communities (and sectors) across the country don’t just say, but actually do.
