Brief Description Organization

Family Support Centre

The Family Support Centre is a community-based program working with children, families, elders, and caregivers to enhance strengths, build capacities and to promote healthy development. The FSC delivers a wide range of services guided by principles that focus on building supportive relationships, facilitating growth, respecting the culture and furthering community development. The programs available are:
  • Community Outreach
  • Counseling Services
  • Drop-in programs
  • Referrals to other resources
  • Ongoing support
  • Educational activities

Fort McKay Wellness Centre

The Wellness Centre aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment where all children and youth have every opportunity to reach their full potential. The facility promotes skill building, self-reliance, personal development, recreation, cultural education and activities, and environmental and community awareness to children ages 6 to 17 years. Services include a children’s after school program, youth drop-in activities, youth leadership programs, a supper program, summer day camp programs, and more.

The Mothers of McKay (M.O.M) Association

The M.O.M. Association is a non-profit society that aims to provide safe, reliable, and beneficial childcare services to the youngest members of our community, allowing parents to pursue education, employment, and respite opportunities. The M.O.M. Association is responsible for the community Daycare, Aboriginal Head Start, Meals on Wheels, and the hot lunch program at the Fort McKay School one day a week.

Elders Centre

Elders are intricately vital to the spiritual and cultural health of Fort McKay residents. The Elders Centre provides a space for Elders to meet, socialize, and to celebrate special events. Lunch is provided for Elders at the Centre twice a week.

Health Centre

The Health Centre’s mission is to optimize the well-being of the Fort McKay community. It manages all aspects of health, as well as social services supporting health assessment and maintenance. Services currently available at the Health Centre are primary care (e.g., family physician), public health (e.g., immunizations, vaccinations, STI screening, baby check-ups), prenatal and well-woman visits, mental health therapist, physiotherapy, geriatric/palliative care specialist services, lab testing (e.g., blood work), and telehealth consults. The Health Centre will have the following additional services in the near future: internal medicine specialist visits, dentist clinics, pharmacy services, and optometrist clinics.

Youth Centre

The Youth Centre’s mission is to create a safe, fun, and empowering environment for the youth of Fort McKay. This is a youth-directed program—if they can dream it, the passionate people at the centre can make it happen. A diverse array of activities and programs are available for youth in Fort McKay ages 12 to 18 years old. Along with a daily drop-in, the Youth Centre also offers a supper program every night from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Youth are encouraged to participate in the planning and preparation of healthy and fun meals.
